If there is one country in the world that will take you by surprise it will surely be Iran. Forget about all the prejudices you might have heard about, like Iranian people are Islamic fundamentalists, hating America. The real picture couldn’t be any more different from what we think this country is like! Here you will find the most hospitable, the friendliest and the most generous people you can imagine. Meet the people in Iran and you will have the most memorable experience on your travels.
Compared to other countries, Iran still sees relatively few tourists which means Iranians are naturally curious why you come travelling to their country. No matter in which city you are, Iranians won’t hesitate to get in a talk with you. On the train, waiting for a bus, in the supermarket and sometimes they will just walk up to you in the street and start chatting with you “Why do you come to Iran? What do you think of Iran?”. These casual meetings are often followed by an invitation for a cup of tea, or if you get lucky even for a delicious Persian dinner in their homes.
You are trying to cross a busy street, without getting run over by the reckless Iranian drivers? Don’t worry, a random guy will come up to you and offer you his help to cross the street. You are trying to read the cryptic Farsi language in your map? Don’t be surprised if an Iranian literally takes you by the hand to guide you to that museum you were looking for. Maybe you are not in need for help at all, and you are just waiting somewhere in the street. But be sure Iranian people will come up to you and offer their help anyway.
Iranians love eating and they definitely love picnics. When the weather is nice and the temperatures are not too hot, you will see millions of Iranian people and families scattered around in parks, enjoying a traditional picnic with chai, kebab and watermelon. If you are asked to sit down with them, don’t be shy and take the chance to enjoy the typical Iranian hospitability. Iranian people will gladly share their food and stories with you. And all they ask in return is a selfie with their new friend.
